WEDNESDAY was a red-letter day in the history of that valuable institution - Evesham Hospital. ON the Crown Meadow, Evesham, on Saturday afternoon, Dreux Athletic were again defeated by Evesham United FC, but the victory of the Evesham team was insignificant when compared with the personal achievement of the 82-year-old Mayor of Dreux, M Maurice Viollette. With his wife, M Viollette travelled 700 miles on land and sea to strengthen further the happy association of Evesham and Dreux. His courage, chivalry and warmth of his personality made his mission an obvious success.

WHEN Evesham Twinning Association and friends visit Dreux next April, they have been asked to take with them an English policeman and a double decker bus. The visit, which is planned for April 29, will involve the signing of a twinning charter. Mr A Newell, secretary of the twinning association, said: "They are planning a tremendous welcome and are organising an English Week in our honour. "They have asked us to take one or two English policemen in their uniforms, a policewoman, as they do not have them in Dreux, and a double decker bus."
