November 8 1902

GEORGE Redding, labourer, of Head Street, Pershore, was summoned for defacing the paint on a house contrary to the borough by-law on striking matches thereon on October 25. Inspector Yarnold said he saw defendant and others come up High Street, and when defendant passed Dr Martin's house he struck a match on one of the pillars. Witness followed him and told him he had defaced the paint. Defendant, who at first gave witness a false name of Harris, said he was ignorant of the law and very sorry it had occurred. He was fined 2s 6d with 9s 6d costs.

November 5 1927

ON Friday night and Saturday morning of last week, one of the worst gales for many years was experienced in Evesham and the Four Shires District, the material damage was considerable, but fortunately no lives were lost. Overhead wires were broken by falling branches, causing the town and district electricity supply to fail. As a result, the recital by Melsa, the violinist, had to be concluded in the feeble light of bicycle lamps.

November 8 1952

MR James Coldicott, aged 31, farmer of The Court, Offenham, is in Evesham Hospital with head injuries received when he was thrown from his horse on Monday when hunting with the West Warwickshire Farmers' Hunt which had met at Wixford. It is understood that Mr Coldicott's horse shied and that he was thrown head first into a telegraph pole. He has a slight fracture of the skull and his condition on Thursday was said to be satisfactory.

A LIMITED service will be available even if firemen go ahead with their threatened strike, which is due to start on Monday. Evesham Fire Station has a full-time staff of seven firemen but there are 18 retained men who are unlikely to be affected by the call for strike action by the Fire Brigade Union.
