THROUGH the kindness of Mrs Ernest Bomford, of Spring Hill, the inmates of the Union Workhouse in Pershore were given a tea and entertainment in the Baptist Schoolroom on Tuesday evening. There were about 60 present, and those who, through age or infirmity, were unable to attend, were not forgotten, tea and provisions being sent to them. By the thoughtful preparation and assiduous attention, Mrs Bomford and her willing body of helpers made the visitors feel thoroughly at ease and a most enjoyable time was spent by all.

THERE was a good entry of fat cattle, sheep and pigs at the Evesham Christmas Fat Stock show and sale held at the Smithfield Market on Monday. A feature of the show was the quality of heifers, those entered by Messrs D. Williams and Son, of Honeybourne, winning the Evesham Journal Cup, which was on offer for the first time, and a good cross-bred entered by Mr George Swift, who recently disposed of the greater part of his Haselor herd, securing the cup given by the President (Mr Ernest Stevens, of Elmley Castle, owner of the Pershore herd of pedigree Herefords). The challenge cup given by the late Sir Charles Swinfen-Eady was won by Mr G. Baylis, of Mickleton, who entered an excellent pair of oxen.

IT will be "eyes down" at the Clifton Cinema, Evesham, every Tuesday and Friday from early next year when twice-weekly bingo sessions supplement the regular film shows. A licence to operate bingo sessions was granted at an appeal at Worcester Crown Court. The appeal was against a decision by the Evesham Betting and Licensing Committee not to grant a bingo club licence. The committee was told that because of steady losses since 1968 the cinema would have to close if bingo sessions were not allowed.
