January 10 1903

A heavy thunderstorm passed over this district on Saturday at 10am, accompanied by hail and rain. The lightning was very vivid and some sharp crackling peals of thunder broke immediately overhead. Thunderstorms in January are very rare, the last occurring on January 25, 1884, almost exactly 19 years ago. The .83 of an inch was the heaviest fall since the 10th of September when 1.33in was registered during the preceding 24 hours.

January 14 1928

Convened by the churchwardens and sidesmen of Pershore Abbey and St Andrew's, a gathering of the churchworkers was held at the Institute Hall on Wednesday evening to meet the new vicar and Mrs Statham. About 120 attended and the proceedings were of an interesting and fraternal character. A committee of ladies arranged for the refreshments, for which work they were cordially thanked on the proposition of the Rev H Gordon Clinch.

January 10 1953

At a special meeting on Wednesday, Evesham Town Council formally resolved that the honorary freedom of the Borough of Evesham should be conferred on Sir Rupert De la Bere, M.P., Lord Mayor of London. The award will be "in recognition of his invaluable and untiring service to the borough as a member of parliament for the Evesham and South Worcestershire Parliamentary Divisions for the past 17 years, as a mark of deep satisfaction felt by all Evesham burgesses at his recent elevation to the high office of Lord Mayor of London, and as an expression of the great esteem in which he is held by the Mayor, aldermen and burgesses of this ancient borough."

Evesham skateboarding enthusiasts who are hoping to form a club in the town are to hold their first organised skateboarding session on Saturday. An Evesham town councillor, Mr John Kay, has organised the session to coincide with the regular meeting of Wallace House Saturday Club. Youngsters will get the chance to use the gym at the youth and community centre in Oat Street.
