A VERY successful smoking concert was held at the headquarters of the Royal Oak Sick and Dividend Club, Badsey, on Friday evening, there being 60 members present. The following were some of the singers: Messrs C. Emms, G. Burt (Evesham), F. Haines (Evesham), J. Sadler and F. Evans. Mr J. Pritchard, of Offenham, kindly gave selections on his powerful gramophone, which were very much enjoyed. Mr F. Finch was at the piano, and Mr G. Witts was chairman.

THE Town Hall, Evesham, was practically filled on Tuesday evening when Mr Laurie Toseland gave a series of dramatic and humorous recitals, with Mrs F.E. Thomas assisting him with songs. COUNCILLOR Oliver Morgan was invited by Evesham Town Council at a private meeting on Monday evening to become Evesham's Coronation Year Mayor. He declined the invitation and told reporters after the meeting, "After a great deal of consideration I decided that as a worker and a wage-earner the demands on my working time would be too severe. It was the most unhappy decision I have ever had to make."

THE mayor of Evesham, Mr K.D.Sinclair, will be leading a deputation to London in February to meet the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport, Mr John Horan, to discuss plans for an Evesham by-pass. The deputation will include Mr Jack Beckley (chairman of Wychavon District Council), Mr Pat Rust (chief executive), and Mr V.E.Jones (county surveyor). For the past 20 years Evesham has been planning for a by-pass to take traffic away from the town centre. But it was only at a public meeting held shortly before Christmas that people realised the Ministry knew nothing about the plans for the by-pass.
