The minutes of Evesham Town Council Committees refer to several matters of general interest. Amongst them, and perhaps the most important, was the re-introduction of the matter of electric lighting. It is some time since this subject was first considered by the Town Council, and the general impression left upon the public mind was that the subject had been dropped. There have been crowded houses at the Scala, Evesham, each night this week to see Syd Chaplin in Bairnsfather picture The Better 'Ole and general delight has been expressed by everyone who has seen the picture. It is certainly one of the most amusing films every produced, and provokes loud and hearty laughter. Syd Chaplin in the character of Old Bill is irresistibly funny, and there is no doubt that this is the best screen part he has played.

The occasion was the first of a series of boxing galas being planned by the new Evesham Sporting Club, and the evening was a great success. But it was touch and go as less that two weeks before the fight only 100 of the £10 tickets had been sold.
