JOHN Brain was delighted with his rotation system which eased Worcester into round five of the Powergen Cup.

The Sixways director of rugby made wholesale changes to the normal league side but it didn't affect the performance as his team swept Manchester aside 73-12.

Worcester ran in 11 tries while new signing Tim Walsh collected 28 points in a one-sided affair. And Brain believed the result was a vindication of his chop and change system.

"There is good competition for places here now," he said. "In years gone by I don't think that was the case so much but the players we brought here in the summer plus some of the academy guys really keep people on their toes.

"To score 11 tries against Manchester is a pleasing result and the main thing is that we are in the next round of the cup. We made nine changes for the cup and the objective was to go out there and play quite a bit of pattern. We did that and played a good running game. I think we've achieved our objective and with that played some good attractive rugby.

"Obviously we have now got to keep this going next weekend against Wakefield and then into the Rotherham match.

"There are a lot of players in with a chance of playing in that match and after today it has given us more to think about. It's all good for Worcester because the players are pushing one another hard. Everyone wants to play in the Rotherham game and they certainly have the chance to impress against Wakefield on Saturday.

"Against Manchester, Gavin Pfister did well once again while it was nice to see Dan Zaltzman back in the side because he had a good game. Tim Walsh can be pleased with his full debut while Adrian Olver again did the basics well."
