UNBEATEN and still top but we were given a mighty test by Tamworth on Monday night in front of a fantastic crowd.

To get 1,500 on an absolute pig of a night is just incredible and shows the momentum we have got at the moment.

Despite the Lambs strong showing I was not too despondent and was pleased with the way we dug in and scrapped for everything.

A few people said Danny McDonnell earned us the point and though he was superb I think it's unfair to just single him out because the rest of the defence battled hard and defended well.

We didn't do enough going forward but as I said we displayed character and resilience and to be honest I had a feeling it wasn't going to be our night but if that's the case you have to make sure it's not the opposition's either and that's what we did.

In the corresponding fixtures with Folkestone and Tamworth last year we got zero points so this year we are already up by four.

Now is the time to strengthen the squad if possible and irrespective of Stewart Hadley's injury, Marc Burrow's back, David Foy's knee and Michael Blackwood's departure I would still ideally like to add a few players. We've made a fine start and I always feel it's better to be pro-active when the wheel of fortune is going your way.

Of course budgets have to be met and we will have to discuss it but I would be hoping to replace Michael if he goes for good.

His absence on Monday was a blow, and a few of the Tamworth players had an extra bounce in their step when they knew he wasn't playing but he's preparing for a reserve game with Stevenage tonight and needs to get that out of system.

All he wants to do is play football full time, though I'm not sure the current offers are in his best interest.

We brought him here after he'd been released by Wrexham, helped pick him up after that disappointment and get him settled again but of course wants the phone goes and clubs express an interest he gets distracted. However, the door is still open for him at St George's Lane and we would welcome him back.

Losing Stewart is another timely reminder how, just when you think things are going your way, soccer gives you a nudge to say it isn't going to be all plain sailing.

That's was the case with David Foy who we patched up after he suffered a rib injury and then 15 minutes into Monday's game hurts his knee.

Saturday sees us visit Crawley and then we've got Hinckley and Staffford before the cup competitions and after those three matches we will probably have a good indication how is season is going to shape.

All in all it has been a terrific start to the season especially bearing in mind the tough travelling schedules we've had followed by Monday night games.
