1802: On Saturday evening last, an inquest was taken before Mr R.M Mence, Gent, on the body of a man found suffocated in a wash-barrel at a public house in Worcester. The deceased had driven the mail coach from Birmingham to this city on the proceeding evening. He afterwards went to the public house where he usually slept and, on being called the following morning to return the coach to Birmingham, he was found in the situation already described. Verdict - "Lunacy".

1902: The Grand Jury at Worcester Assizes submitted a resolution to the Judge that steps should be taken to prevent betting in the streets of the city. The learned Judge said he quite agreed, and no doubt the Mayor and the Chief Constable would do all that the law allowed to prevent it.

1952: A verdict of "Accidental Death" was returned at the Droitwich inquest into the death of Robert Livermore of Worcester Road, Bromsgrove, a 48-years-old mast erector engineer with Marconi Wireless and Telegraph Limited. The inquest heard how he fell 700 ft while working at the top of one of the radio masts of the BBC's transmitting station at Wychbold. The Coroner, Mr T.F Higginson, said the accident might not have happened had Mr Livermore been wearing a safety belt.

Six leading Press representatives from Germany have paid a visit to Worcester where they were shown the first example of Britain's People's House", built by Wates Ltd on the Dines Green estate. In Germany, the housing need is being mainly met by the building of large blocks of flats, so the visitors were impressed with our new individual dwellings costing about £1,210 each. At one house, they met a former German woman, Mrs G.H Gwilliam, who lived near Hanover before she married a British soldier serving in Germany.
