ALL Central Trains out of Worcester have been cancelled today because of the second of three planned walkouts by train guards.

Central Trains is one of nine operators to be hit by the strike which is being held by guards to get their safety role reinstated in the railway rulebook.

The operator has had to cancel 90 per cent of journeys throughout the Midlands including all of those out of Worcester.

Ninety per cent of Virgin Trains' services including West Coast and Cross Country routes have also been affected.

But the operator says it is running a normal service for London with Thames Trains.

It will be business as usual as well for First Great Western, which has reached an agreement with the striking members of the Rail Maritime and Transport Workers.

Around 3,000 RMT members will be taking part in today's strike, which follows the first 24 hour walkout on Friday.

An RMT spokesman said guards had been campaigning to have their safety role, which includes preventing further collisions following an accident, reinstated in the rule book.

The third strike is planned for Maundy Thursday, April 17 - one of the busiest days of the year for train operators.
