HOAX callers are being warned they will be tracked down and prosecuted after a series of malicious calls were made during the firefighters' strike.

Around 8am today three calls were made simultaneously to fire control, directing the Green Goddesses to the Wyld's Lane area of Worcester.

Military crews, in force during the strike, were turned back after it was discovered the calls were malicious false alarms.

Worcester Police and Hereford and Worcester Fire Brigade are investigating.

Sick

"The people who make these calls at any time, let alone when there's a strike on, are sick in mind," said Alec Mackie, spokesman for the brigade.

"Hopefully, using technical devices we have in the communications world, we might be able to track them down.

"We do appeal to people, if they know of anyone who is making these calls, please tell the police.

"It puts people in considerable danger should we get a real fire somewhere else. They're a menace."
