AFTER too long in the doldrums, the 2000/2001 season should be the turning point for Evesham United.

Manager Phil Mullen has been canny during the summer, quietly rebuilding his Common Road side to give them a real chance of honours in the Dr Martens Western Division.

Eyebrows were raised with the arrival of srikers Steve Taylor and Sam Bowen.

When Kidderminster Harriers released Taylor, few would have predicted a move to the Vale. But Mullen's web of contacts did the business and the former Harriers boss managed to land his prize guy.

Bowen, like his new strike partner, will have something to prove having been shown the door at Worcester City.

He has a reputation for losing his temper but, on his day, can be a match winner.

County neighbours Redditch United were in the hunt for a promotion place for much of last season before slipping off the pace.

Boss Rob Smith has virtually rebuilt his side this season and, in defence and midfield, the Reds appear stronger than ever.

But the lack of depth up front could cost them dear.

Bromsgrove Rovers has also been a place of transfer dealings during the summer as George Rooney looks to bring some stability to the Victoria Ground.

But it will take at least another year to turn around the Greens' fortunes and they will do well to escape relegation.

FORECAST: Evesham United -- 6th, Redditch United -- 8th, Bromsgrove Rovers -- 20th.
