BROMSGROVE Rovers have been given fresh hope of averting a winding-up order.

Their landlords Bromsgrove District Council have assured them they will be granted a new lease on the Victoria Ground, even though the club faces an £18,000 demand from HM Customs and Excise in a Liverpool court next week.

The council's corporate director Bob Lewis met with supermarket giants Asda, who want to extend their adjacent store in the town.

The matter will be discussed again within the next four weeks after several other matters are resolved.

But Rovers want written assurances that the lease will be granted. Chief executive Pat Bannister claiming the consortium he has put together cannot invest until the lease is in place.
