BROMSGROVE Rovers are set to boost their attack again in a bid to arrest their dismal start to the season.

Manager Steve Daley was due to look at a striker in training last night with a view to a permanent signing.

Daley declined to name the player involved, but if the signing goes through, he could make his debut in tomorrow's Dr Martens League Western Division home clash with Hinckley United (3.00).

Daley said: "If he impresses me and we impress him and he is interested in joining us, then we will welcome him."

The new man is likely to team up with on-loan Kidderminster Harriers striker Stuart Payne, who was ineligible for Rovers' 3-1 FA Cup defeat against Stourbridge last week -- their third reverse in three matches.

Daley said that they were hoping to reach agreement with Harriers to bring Payne back to the Victoria Ground on a permanent basis.

Payne moved to Aggborough with Dean Bennett in what was believed to be a £40,000 joint deal last season, but he has fallen out of favour with Harriers' new boss Jan Molby.

Daley added: "We are talking to Kidderminster at the moment and we have agreed a fee, but it is down to Stuart. He enjoys it at Bromsgrove, so you never know.

"Without a doubt Stuart will be very important to us. If he is anything like he has been in training, he will be excellent."

Rovers will also be boosted by the return of defender Alex Winstone, who has completed a three-match suspension.

He replaces Tony Brien, who has left the club following his dismissal in the Cup tie, and it will allow Daley's son Ryan to return to his favoured midfield position.

Daley added: "We had three players suspended at the start of the season and they were our three central defenders.

"It was always going to be tough but we have Alex and Russell Dodd back now and they are going to make a big difference for us."

Rovers travel to Bilston Town on Monday evening.
