STAFF from a Worcestershire garden centre have bagged more than £1,000 for Acorns Children's Hospice Trust.

Employees of Webbs at Wychbold, near Droitwich, donated toys, clothes and other goods, valued at £1,070, to the charity.

The items will now be sold in Acorns shops throughout the county.

"The response from Webbs was superb," said Dennis Hyde, retail merchandising manager for Acorns.

"In all, we collected 107 bags of good quality goods and clothes."

Webbs has adopted the children's charity for 2002/3 and the funds raised will be routed through the Greenfingers Appeal, which is a charity initiative that will create the gardens at the new Bath Road hospice.

"We will be holding lots of fund-raising events for staff and customers over the next 12 months," said Marigold Webb, from the centre.

"We're also planning to open a special Acorns clothing bank on site."
