THE Acorns charity found the festive spirit was alive and kicking when it receiving a gift of 35 Christmas trees.

The charity raised £350 after selling the trees for £10 each.

"We are, of course, absolutely delighted with the donation," an Acorns spokesman said.

Dr Richard Whitmore, a Worcester GP, arranged for the seven-year-old Christmas trees to be collected from his home in Hatfield Lane, Norton.

After being removed in the pouring rain by two of the charity's volunteers, the trees were later sold with all money going to the Acorns Children's Hospice Trust Fund.

"The trees had to go so why not give them to charity," Dr Whitmore's son, Jamie, said.

The charity is aiming to build a new children's hospice in Worcester, and other festive offerings from the region have included a collection at Malvern Theatres' Dick Whittington pantomime and proceeds from the sale of the Evening News' own pin-ups New Year calendar.
