THE last time Bromsgrove Rovers started a season as well as they have done so far, Yazz were top of the charts and Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister.

The last time the Victoria Ground crowd witnessed a start like this it was the 1988/89 season when Rovers lost just twice in 22 games although their first defeat came after nine games. They then went another ten games undefeated before losing 2-0 at Redditch.

Last Saturday's 5-1 stuffing of Cirencester Town made it six wins from the opening seven fixtures, putting Gary Hackett and Jon Ford's team within touching distance of eclipsing that start.

But something that is a first is Rovers' run of scoring five goals in three successive home games.

In the two matches prior to the Cirencester game, Rovers saw off Gresley Rovers 5-0 in the FA Cup and despatched Clevedon Town 5-1.

Although an FA Cup fixture is sandwiched in the run, it is still three in a row and you have to cast your mind back to the 1976/77 season when Rovers hit five in two consecutive matches.

In November of that Southern League campaign, Rovers beat Gloucester 5-0 and three days later won 6-0 at Corby.

Simply put, Rovers are enjoying their best start for years and are playing some of the best football in a long time, which in turn in seeing the crowds return.

Last Saturday it was 512, the week before it was 732 and not one attendance this season, league or cup, has been below 300.
