BROMSGROVE Rovers look set to fail in their bid to sign former Birmingham City striker Kevin Francis ahead of the transfer deadline next week.

Joint manager Gary Hackett admitted that Rovers were interested in the 6ft 8in veteran but he seems unlikely to be released by Dr Martens Premier Division Hednesford Town who have just sacked manager Ian Painter. Ex-Kidderminster defender Chris Brindley has taken over.

Rovers face a tough trip to Gloucester City tomorrow (3pm) as they bid to keep alive their faint hopes of promotion from the Dr Martens Western Division but Hackett feels they are turning the corner.

"Gloucester have been pretty consistent all season and having been beaten by Stourport Swifts last weekend will be eager to bounce back and it's going to be a very tough game," he said.

"They beat us 4-2 at home just when the rot started to set in but I think we are now turning the corner, and I can feel the confidence creeping back in."

Hackett revealed Marvin Blake has been released by the club due to Les Palmer's return to the team.

"Les has come back fitter and slimmer and in the two games he's played has made a valuable contribution," added Hackett.
