RESIDENTS in and around Wyre Piddle will be able to see how the village would be affected by a proposed road closure when plans go on display at a public exhibition.

Since the opening of the £5m Wyre Piddle Bypass, in December, some through traffic has continued to travel through the village.

Worcestershire County Council has sought ways of keeping such traffic out of the village, but residents' opinions were divided over the original proposal for full closure of the road at the eastern railway bridge.

Now council consultant Halcrow has drawn up plans for a partial closure that would allow buses, cycles and emergency vehicles to pass through.

Designs of how the proposals would work out will be on display at Wyre Piddle Village Hall on Monday, March 31, from 2pm to 7.30pm.

County council officers and representatives of Halcrow will attend to answer questions.

Because of the volume and nature of objections to the closure proposal, as well as support for it, it was decided the best way to settle the matter was to invite an independent inspector to listen to opinions and evidence from all concerned.

This will be done at a public inquiry on May 21, which will be concerned with the single issue of whether or not Main Road, Wyre Piddle, should be closed at the eastern railway bridge.

Monday's exhibition is intended to inform interested people of the council's case for the inquiry.
