BROMSGROVE rally driver Iain Henderson overcame a dislocated thumb to drive his brand new car to a maiden British Championship Tarmacadam win.

Henderson, and co-driver Paul Farley, finished in first place in their MG ZR after ten fast and furious rounds on the Tour of Epynt, near Llandovery, last week.

Battling all day over 100 miles with the Renault Clio Williams of Paul Harewood, Henderson edged steadily ahead all day before, finishing 18 seconds at the end.

But Iain dislocated his right thumb when his car clipped a hay bale on a 115mph straight, wrenching the wheel from his grasp.

However, he forced it back into its socket and finished the stage.

The day didn't start well either as the front wheel drive ZR experienced braking problems, causing two spins in stage one and a 30-second deficit.

But that problem was soon resolved and by stage five, the longest of the day at 19.5 miles, the pair were third on the leaderboard.

A valiant drive on the following two tests saw Henderson claw back to within 12 seconds of leader Harewood, a gap he eventually made up over the final stages for victory, despite dislocating his thumb.

The team sets off to Newquay for the Tour Of Cornwall on April 12 and 13.
