ANOTHER battle in the campaign to stop the M42 was lost this week. A High Court ruling in London removed one of the last obstacles to the proposed motorway. Protestors from Bromsgrove were dismayed to hear judge Sir Douglas Frank say: "There must come a point when the rights of objectors ends and the freedom of a minister to implement policy begins."

THE continued expansion of Wychbold prompted the parish council to call on Wychavon District Council to erect street lights. Councillors claimed the unlit streets on the housing estate were both dangerous and inconvenient.

MEMBERS of Bromsgrove British Legion Club, which was presently homeless, were confused over an offer by the district council of a small piece of land to rent at Gas Square and which may have been suitable. However, members were dismayed to discover a clause which prevented any building being erected on it within 12 feet of the road.

A ROW had erupted at Fairfield over proposals to build a new village hall for a sum of £14,000. At a public meeting villagers' opinions were divided. Some said they wished to see the present building renovated at a cost of £10,000.

THE deaths of two well-known members of the same family occurred within two days of each other. Miss Lucy Moss, aged 68, and her aunt Mrs Marion Smith, 101, both from Cottage Farm, Bournheath. Mrs Smith was, 13, when she became a monitoress at Dodford School and only after receiving an hour's tuition she was given the task of teaching the children
