GOVERNORS at North Bromsgrove High School were to make representations to the county council for £29,000 to refurbish the school's swimming pool which had fallen into disrepair.

THE Bromsgrove family grocery firm of John B Wilson and Sons held a dinner dance for staff at Stone Manor to mark the firm's 125th anniversary. The firm, which had branches in several villages around Bromsgrove, had traded from the same High Street premises since 1853. In the early days the shops had sold such things as snuff, candles and hops.

BROMSGROVE Joggers Club which had been launched 18 months ago with much enthusiasm by its 30 members was in danger of folding now they had fallen to just a dozen. The club met in the gym at Parkside school.

STUDENTS at Shenstone College in Bromsgrove had been refused permission to hold a Rag Week collection in High Street. District council officer Bob Lewis said only 12 organisations were given permission to hold High Street collections per year and the students had been unlucky this time around. Two years ago they defied the council in similar circumstances only to have the charity cash they collected confiscated by police.
