VOLUNTEERS in Kidderminster are in line for extra help thanks to a £54,000 lottery grant.

The cash will be used by Community Action Wyre Forest to pay for a qualified project co-ordinator to help with its work in placing volunteers with community groups.

"At the moment, we can only operate for 16 hours a week and it's not enough to do all the work we want to," said development manager Sascha McDonald.

The £54,765 grant from the National Lottery's Community Fund will pay for a new 25-hour-a-week co-ordinator for the next three years. Mrs McDonald said the job would go to someone who knows about volunteer work and special needs.

"They will be able to help our volunteers to get through a first interview and to give them extra support if they need it," she said. "It's a sensitive job but it's important to help people along and give them more opportunities."

The group is based at Burgage Lodge in Franche Road and can offer information on all aspects of voluntary work.
