A CHURCH must find a further £50,000 before a huge renovation scheme can begin.
Work at Stourport Methodist Church, Parkes Passage, had been due to start last autumn but the cost of the reconstruction rocketed from £350,000 to more than £500,000.
It has since been trimmed to £485,000 but treasurer Peter Green admits to feeling "very disappointed" by the delay.
"We thought we were all ready to go," he said. "But now, because of problems with the heating system we're having to have services in the school room across Parkes Passage."
Four years' fundraising together with grants has pulled in nearly £300,000 and Mr Green said further events were in the pipeline.
The project will modernise facilities and renovate the interior of the 18th century building.
