A PIONEERING scheme to lure jobless Redditch people into the world of retail has been failing to attract recruits.

Ambition:Retail was set up after Redditch Jobcentre was one of just five areas in the country given the chance to pilot a Government scheme to give the unemployed a chance to gain retail skills.

But on the first Ambition:Retail course, just four people came along and on the second, only eight turned up.

Jobcentre manager Wendy Wiggett believes the lack of interest may have been down to the Jobcentre failing to reach the people it could really help.

The scheme involves work experience and a one-week work placement towards the end of the training.

Anyone who would like to find out more about the training, which is given by the Redi Centre, or about how the Jobcentre can help people get onto the courses, can call Marva Richards on 483917.
