MY husband and I have lived on Easemore Road, Riverside, for just over a year now.

During that time, we have become increasingly concerned about the speed of vehicles up and down Easemore Road and on the surrounding estates.

The speed bumps on Easemore Road do little to reduce the speed of the traffic. The buses are simply able to avoid them altogether and many drivers just see them as a challenge.

I have witnessed several cars actually take off over the bumps.

I have carried out my own rough calculation of the buses as they leave the bus-only area at the bottom of Easemore Road and have found many of them to be travelling well in excess of 40mph in a 30mph limit.

I eventually became so concerned that I wrote to the police, the council and the bus companies.

The police have said they will look into the use of speed enforcement but nothing has been done yet.

The council says there is little it can do as the area "does not feature on the serious accident statistics list".

The bus companies have not even bothered to reply.

So it seems we have to wait until someone is killed before something is done.

I am therefore appealing to all those drivers who think the speed limit does not apply to them.

Think.

Think about the sight of a child bouncing off your windscreen. Think about the distraught parents identifying their child's body in the mortuary. Think about someone else for a change and for God's sake, slow down.
