LICKEY Monarchs and Barnt Green showed their class in division one of the Bromsgrove and Redditch Table Tennis League by recording whitewashes in the latest round of matches.

Barnt Green's team of Pat McCabe, Mark Cornish and Jason McFaul beat West Midland Phones A 10-0 while league leaders Lickey Monarchs defeated SPSP by the same score in a game that lasted almost two hours.

Carter Retail A also easily beat West Midlands Phones B 9-1. The Phones' only win came when Colin Would beat Gary Jackson 23-21, 20-22, 25-23.

The closest game of the week was between Astwood Bank and Droitwich, with the Bank winning 7-3. Jim Connor stood out for the Bank by winning his three games. Ken Southwell got two wins and Pete Kelly added one.

Whitewashes were all the rage in division two as Hillcrest's team of Graeme Farrell, Alan McLoughlan and Mark Comen beat Carter Retail C 10-0 with West Midland Phones C trouncing Studley Road Bulldogs 10-0.

Another one-sided game saw Studley Road Nomads beat Droitwich C 9-1. Captain Bernie Leech and Jeff Lines were both unbeaten for the Nomads while Alan Davey got Droitwich's only win.

Carter Retail C had a good 6-4 win at home to Studley Road Terriers in which five of the games went to the best of three.

Barnt Green B defeated Barnt Green Hornets 6-4 in the local derby by winning the final doubles match. The Hornets' Ivor Anderson recorded two wins with Neil Anderson and Tony Lawton getting one each.

Pat McCabe was outstanding for Barnt Green B as he was victorious in all his games. Mike Evetts also won twice for Barnt Green B. McCabe and Evetts teamed up in the doubles to beat Anderson and Lawton 21-13, 21-19.
