A GENEROUS offer from Bromsgrove's Round Table has given a happy ending to a sad story.
Last month the Advertiser/Messenger highlighted the plight of a Guide leader who had been mugged of a collection box just a few days before Christmas.
Guide leader Carol Franks, along with her group of girls, had been helping Christmas shoppers by wrapping their presents for donations in Boots in High Street. The girls were raising money to have their Guide hut on Kidderminster Road refurbished.
Over the day they had raised about £100, including a £25 donation from Boots.
Carol, who has been a Guide leader for more than 10 years, was about to get into her car in Recreation Road car park, when a mugger pushed her to the floor and made off with her handbag and the money collected by the Guides.
Carol, whose right leg is paralysed, said: "The thing that annoyed me most was that the people of Bromsgrove had given so generously to help us refurbish the Guide hut, and all that had been lost."
However, when Bromsgrove Round Table vice-chairman Mike Everard read the story, he felt they had to do something to help and so they have donated £100 to cover the lost funds.
Carol said: "On behalf of the Guides of Bromsgrove, I want to say thank you so much to the Round Table. It just shows that there are people out there who care.
"I also want to say thank you to the police for being so quick and helpful."
