BARNT Green Spartak crashed out of their second cup competition in a week after losing 2-0 at Northfield Town in the Smedley Crooke Charity Cup second round.

Spartak, who were beaten 5-2 by Bewdley Town in the Worcestershire Junior Cup semi-finals in their previous game, were without top scorer Reckey Carter and captain Simon Pinfield through injury.

The result did not do justice to GJ Singh's side's performance, with Spartak outplaying their Midland Combination division one hosts but failing to put the ball in the net.

Northfield took the lead on 15 minutes when Dean Merrick tucked in a well worked free-kick.

One-way traffic in the second half saw Spartak come close on a number of occasions but Northfield scored from one of their two counter attacks. Martin Townsend hit a rocket of a shot from 18-yards on 62 minutes for 2-0.

Spartak kept up the pressure but could not find the target.
