FIVE second half goals ensured Droitwich Spa Football Club remain top Midland Combination division two after a 5-0 home victory over basement boys Handsworth United.

But Spa, who are joint top with Littleton on 37 points, made hard work of the result, failing to score in the first 45 minutes.

Spa boss Kevin Blaber said: "We made hard work of it in the first half but once we scored the first it was a question of how many.

"We played very well in the second half and deserved the victory."

Mark Clements gave Spa the lead on 50 minutes, followed ten minutes later by Ben Blaber.

Russell Carlin, promoted from the reserves, got the third and Andy Butler netted the fourth on 80 minutes. Ben Blaber got his second with two minutes left.

Defender Gary Cleaver has been sidelined for six weeks after sustaining a groin injury during the match.
