DROITWICH Spa RFC First XV go into this Saturday's clash at second-bottom Kings Norton in high spirits after a recording their fourth win in a row.

Spa's 42-22 defeat of Edwardians at the Glyn Mitchell Memorial Ground last Saturday saw them go second in Midlands Four West (South), just two points behind leaders Old Yardleians.

And Spa director of rugby, Julian Bailey, is taking great satisfaction from watching his and Neil Evans' side go from strength to strength.

He said: "It's warming to see the team getting stronger with each performance. We are gelling together well and we have a good team spirit.

"As each week goes by we're getting stronger. It wasn't there at the beginning of the season but we are getting to the stage where we have a settled side."

Despite the 20-point winning margin, and leading by 35 points at the turnaround last Saturday, Bailey thought Edwardians had given a good account of themselves but he said the result was never in doubt.

"The game was closer than the score would suggest because they never threw the towel in," he said. "It's difficult to keep concentration when you have a big lead but I always felt that we would score. When they came back at us, we went back at them.

"I never really feared that we would lose that match."

Bailey also knows that Kings Norton, 27-15 victors at Spa in October, should not be taken for granted.

He added: "Of all the teams in the league, Kings Norton want to beat us because it is a local derby. They will be up for it but so will we."
