CAMPAIGNERS calling for better eye services in Redditch will be reassured by the inclusion of Redditch and Bromsgrove Community Health Council (CHC) on a new project team reviewing them.

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust said the team would look at improving county eye services, ensuring equality of service and locally available services at all its sites.

Campaigners, including the CHC health watchdog, have been calling for improved facilities at the Alexandra Hospital for more than a year and put together a petition with 15,000 signatures.

Trust director of strategy and partnership Sheryl Knight said: "What is important is bolstering local services and access and making services more equitable.

The team, which will include Primary Care Trusts, doctors and CHCs, will formulate a three-year plan which will then be discussed with other interested parties later this year.

Redditch and Bromsgrove CHC chief officer Moira Morris welcomed the news her group would be included.

The Alexandra Hospital currently has one full-time eye consultant and facilities which see patients having to take eye tests in a corridor.
