A TRAINEE estate agent was said to be suicidal as she was found to be two-and-a-half times the drink-drive limit after being involved in a collision.

Clare Cornbill, aged 26, said she was trying to kill herself after giving a positive breath test, Worcester Magistrates Court heard yesterday.

Julie Rosamond, prosecuting, said Cornbill had been driving her Vauxhall Corsa on the A4133 when she hit a Vauxhall Cavalier in Holt Fleet.

Residents heard the collision and looked after the people involved.

"The police came and found the defendant slumped on a kitchen table," said Ms Rosamond.

"They suspected she had consumed alcohol. Her speech was slurred, and she admitted drinking."

Cornbill, of Comer Gardens, St John's, said she had taken prescribed tablets and tried to kill herself.

A hospital blood sample gave a reading of 203mg of alcohol to 100ml of blood. The legal limit is 80mg.

She was kept in hospital overnight, and her behaviour was erratic.

"She was aggressive and then sobbing, asking for help and saying she wanted to die," she said.

Cornbill admitted drink-driving.

Dawn Cooper, defending, said Cornbill was suffering from depression at the time of the incident, which happened at 10.45pm on Wednesday, April 3, last year.

"She had confronted something from her childhood, which explains her distressed state," she said.

She said she had found comfort in alcohol, and had been suffering from blackouts because she had been drinking to excess.

Ms Cooper said she did not remember getting into her car that night, or why she was driving.

"She's deeply ashamed of what's happened," she said.

Magistrates disqualified her from driving for two years. They also fined her £155, with £55 costs.
