Gresley Rovers 1 Redditch United 1

REDDITCH were cruelly denied a cash jackpot and mouthwatering home draw against Conference giants Kettering when Barry Woolley headed past a despairing Harvey Willetts seconds from time to salvage a 1-1 draw.

Woolley broke the hearts of vocal Reds fans already celebrating an unlikely cup win.

But against a side struggling at the wrong end of the Dr Martens Western table United should be grateful for another bite at the cherry.

The hosts swarmed over United from the off but failed to convert any of their several chances.

Rather than fold after the body blow of an own goal in the 52nd minute, Rovers fought back for a deserved equaliser.

Richard Field, twice, and fit-again skipper Nigel Niblett all cleared efforts off the line in the first half as Willetts flapped at crosses.

And after the interval Ian Bluck bent a free kick around a four man Reds wall and onto the crossbar.

Within a minute the luckless Bluck turned villain by slicing a dangerous Mark Swann cross into his own net past a stranded James Lindley in the Gresley goal.

But United failed to cope with the hulking presence of Rovers sub John Allcock whose entrance in the area added to the confusion as Woolley struck his last gasp winner.
