LOWER league Rushall dumped nine-man Redditch out of the Birmingham Senior Cup at the first hurdle after Nicky Cross' selection gamble backfired.

Goalkeeper Harvey Willetts, defender Nigel Niblett, midfielders Mark Swann, Richard Field and Neil Cartwright and striker Neil Beagan were rested from the first eleven with Matt Jones, Nigel Brown, Jamie McWilliam and Michael Campbell getting rare starts.

The hosts took a controversial lead in the 37th minute when former Dudley ace Gary Piggott fouled the grounded Jones tackling for a loose ball which rolled to Damien Currier who opened the scoring.

Jones eventually resumed after extensive treatment.

Paul Danks claimed his 13th of the season nine minutes from time after Ryan Price failed to hold a through ball to give Redditch hope.

But Jones was given his marching orders two minutes later after felling Currier in the area.

With no keeper on the bench and chief stand-in Field rested, Brown went between the sticks for the penalty which Olympic midfielder Richard Brown fired wide.

It was Piggott who decided the tie in extra time, converting a Currier cross in the 103rd minute.

Andy Bradley completed United's misery five minutes from the end after being red carded for grappling with an opponent.
