Stourport Swifts 4 Redditch United 5

CRISIS? What crisis.

Caretaker manager Paul West saw the same side who folded against lowly Swindon Supermarine turn the tables on their Worcestershire rivals and soar into a 4-0 lead after 34 minutes.

Goal-getter Paul Danks drew a blank as his clinical teammates notched five goals to reach the League Cup second round.

Colcombe put the visitors in front within a minute of kick-off, rounding two players in the area after good work from the recalled Michael Campbell and slotting home.

Two minutes later and Mark Swann made it two blasting a 20 yard free kick through a five man wall after Colcombe's promising run was halted.

On 15 minutes the unfortunate Dave Davies deflected in a Paul Danks effort from an impossible angle and Redditch were flying.

In the 34th minute Colcombe sent Danks haring down the right before backheeling it to Swann who pulled it back for Campbell to fire into the roof of the net.

4-0 up and coasting Redditch were in unfamiliar territory and panic set in.

They duly allowed their hosts to pull three back and had combative midfielder Richard Field sent off along with Swifts' Asa Charlton after a dust-up on the touchline.

Reassured the odds were once again stacked against them United finished the job when Colcombe fired his second low and hard past Rob Clarke after Matty Southwick failed to clear a Danks pull back.

Redditch keeper Mat Jones' Jekyll and Hyde performance lacked only the billowing cape and sinister top hat as he veered from the sublime to the ridiculous.

The bottle blond gifted the hosts their first when he dived over the ball in first half injury time and Reds old boy Adam Nicholls profited.

An impressive Simon Marsh diving header followed three minutes after the break and Jones was slow to react as Marsh nipped in to head home a ball behind the defence on 62 minutes.

And Jones was grounded after flapping at a cross four minutes from time and could only watch as Lea Shaw fired home.

But the former Solihull shot-stopper saved the tie with two superb saves from Lee Booth.

The first was a flying full length save in the 71st minute before a breathtaking point-blank reaction stop a minute from time.

By the time he got down to tip around a Southwick effort on ninety minutes he was showboating.

The king is dead, long live the king!
