A POSTMISTRESS has raised more than £2,000 for a cancer care charity in memory of her late mother.

Christine Martin, proprietress and postmistress at Bosbury Post Office, began raising the money after her mother's death two years ago.

Mrs Martin's mother, Rita Lloyd, had been cared for by a Marie Curie Cancer Care nurse, prompting the postmistress to start her fund- raising drive.

Through her own hard work and the goodwill and generosity of the people of Bosbury, between Malvern and Ledbury, and other neighbouring villages, Mrs Martin was able to raise the £2,000.

"We would like to thank all our customers who have given so generously not just by purchasing books from the charity book stall, but also by donations across the counter," said Mrs Martin.

"Our thanks also go to the young people and schoolchildren of this village who have consistently donated their pocket money to this cause. Thank you all."

The money raised will go towards the professional care of cancer patients in the local community.

"Throughout my mother's illness my family and I felt privileged to receive the excellent practical nursing care and emotional support of a wonderful Marie Curie Nurse, Anne Hill," said Mrs Martin.

"We hope that this money will give more families access to this invaluable service at a time when they are struggling to cope with a bereavement."

Marie Curie Cancer Care provides support for cancer sufferers and their carers in their own homes.
