M BURCHER (You Say, December 9), attempts to correct two previous correspondents, George Cowley being one of them, regarding mixing evolution and religion.
He then commits a monumental blunder himself by stating that we all emanate from Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden.
It seems that M Burcher cannot distinguish evolution from religious beliefs. The story in the Bible that maintained someone called God created the world in seven days is just a story, with no scientific proof whatsoever.
The scientific theory is that this planet evolved from a massive explosion in the Universe. The conditions became right to sustain life forms, basic at first and, over millions of years, evolving into what we are today.
I have no doubt that science, not superstition, will lead us even further to understand how this planet and its inhabitants have evolved.
