A SUCCESSFUL racing driver from Malvern is swapping the oval track for the racing circuit next season.

Clinton Dorrell, 35, has been a successful oval racing driver for the last 20 years and began his racing career at 16, racing F1 stock cars, and then progressed to F2 stock cars attaining 'Superstar' grade status.

In 1995 he was the runner up British Champion racing Grand Prix Midgets and finished 4th in the European Championships. He won the UK British Sprint Car Championship in 1997 then travelled to New Zealand as a member of the world championship winning team.

Clinton then returned to racing F1 stock cars winning many races to the close of the 2002 season.

Clinton's new venture will be in the Sports Racing & GT Challenge, racing a Cobra kit car. The Cobra is a space frame chassis with a carbon fibre body shell. It is powered by a 377 small block V8 Chevrolet engine.

The series runs for 16 races throughout the year, commencing at Silverstone on March 15 then racing at most circuits throughout the country each month plus Spa, Belgium on May 4.

Clinton will be sponsored by their local family business Peter Dorrell & Co, Sports Hall Floor Refurbishers and also Reinforced Concrete Structures, but also requires further sponsors.
