AFTER much speculation there was no change in the Malvern Hills Indoor Bowls Triples League after Malvern Victoria met Ledbury BC on Saturday.

Whilst the Vics took 11 of the 14 points it wasn't quite the walkover that it appeared. At the halfway stage Jack Taylor for Ledbury was just holding Eddie King 10-9 and eventually secured two points for Ledbury in winning 19-17.

On rink two at halfway Derek Waters was 4-13 down to Victoria's captain Terry King but managed to claw back to 19-19. Ken Marks and his triple never gave an inch to Rod Gill, the Ledbury captain, going into an unassailable lead of 13-0 after only five ends and eventually romped home 27-10.

Graham Hall and Norman Douse enjoyed a close game being 7-7 after nine ends and then Graham struck with a scintillating run of six ends to lead 16-8 only to drop four shots on the last two ends.

The remaining rink involved Alan Winch, who was reported earlier in the season as having a purple patch. This is still continuing, for the game was close right from the start. John Clarke for Victoria was not able to stem the build up of shots that had reached 9-4 by the tenth end. But with only one end to play, the five shot lead had disappeared and turned into a deficit of nine shots with the Victorians gaining a three, a four, a three and another four. Maybe complacency struck the Clarke trio for they dropped a five on the last end to finish 19-15.

Undoubtedly the Malvern Victorians will now be hard to beat for the title next year.
