A MALVERN woman who is nearly 109-years-old helped entertain West Worcester-shire MP Sir Michael Spicer on Saturday during his tour of residential homes.

Miss Elizabeth Guise-Berrow, of the Woodgate Residential Home in Albert Road North, last met Sir Michael Spicer on her 106th birthday.

She came to Malvern when she was a year old, to stay with her aunt and uncle while her father recovered from rheumatic fever.

After remaining in the town, Miss Guise-Berrow attended Worcester Grammar School for girls and was the first woman clerk employed by Midland bank (now HSBC) in Worcester. As well as working there for 30 years, she travelled extensively in Europe where she made many friends.

Sir Michael said: "She's quite one of the most remarkable women I've ever met. Her mind is still very clear; she's full of humour and has a lot of experience in life.

"I was delighted to be able to say Happy Christmas and I hope to be able see her on her birthday (in February)," he added.

Sir Michael also visited Albion Lodge in Hanley Swan, and the Davenham Friends of the Elderly home in Malvern.
