Ledbury police chief Geoff Mayor retired on Tuesday after 30 years in the force, handing over the reins to Insp Sue Thomas.
Speaking on his last day in uniform, Insp Mayor said he was retiring with "mixed feelings and some sadness".
Insp Mayor took command of the southern geographical area of Herefordshire, which includes Ross and Ledbury, ten years ago, having spent most of his career with the Hereford division.
Looking back on his decade in Ledbury, he said: "I enjoyed forging close links with the local community, such as the town council."
Insp Mayor was responsible for introducing "beat management" in Ross and Ledbury, and has always been a strong believer in community policing.
His successor, Sue Insp Thomas, said: "I hope to continue the excellent work Geoff has started. He's very well respected in the community."
