There was an exotic touch to last Saturday's Cricket Club Christmas quiz, when the winning team at came from far-off Acton Beauchamp! 'Cherie and The Gurus' (alias Kathie Smith, Will Gogerty, and Stan and Joe Little) used to come to West Malvern as their nearest cricket club when they lived at Ridgway Cross, but despite their recent move further away they turned up again in the village to claim the top prize. Runners-up were 'O Carol I am but a Fool' - a team made up of Keith and Jenny Close, Angela Baddeley and Dave Cantrell. For some inexplicable reason there was a strong 'Cherie' flavour among the team names, which also included 'Cherie and Minced Lies' (who actually took the booby prize!). It was however 'The Blair Riches Project' which was voted best team name. And one of the non-Blair teams, Celtic Cringe, consisting of Ruth Reed and Wilf and Sharon Keeley, achieved the remarkable result of winning the 'pot-boiler' with every answer correct. The monthly 100 Club Draw also took place at the quiz, with Tim Paige winning the £25 first prize and Mary Hall the £15 second.

There is another quiz this evening (Friday) at the West Malvern Social Club at 8.45pm. Individuals and teams are most welcome, contact Nola Pearson on 573259.

Anyone who would like to help with the planting and staking of the new trees described here last week should turn up the Community Woodland at 11am tomorrow (Saturday) - preferably bringing a spade!
