WOULD you like to be part of a group helping to maintain the Charlie Ballard Nature Reserve? In 1992 the parish council acquired 0.4ha of land south-east of the station from Freda Ballard. Initial enthusiasm and hard work saw fences erected, path and bridges made, the existing stream-fed pond enlarged and a smaller amphibian pond constructed. The whole was dedicated to Charlie Ballard as an informal nature reserve for the parish.

Foot and mouth, changes in parish councillors, changes of clerk and loss of the lengthman has meant that little has been done in the reserve for the last few years. The future of the reserve is therefore uncertain and unpredictable.

Therefore a group of people are needed to give the whole project a sense of stability and permanence. If you would like to be a member please contact James Ferguson on 540103 or any other parish councillor.
