A WORCESTER man kicked another man around "like a rag doll" during a fight outside a Worcester pub.

Samuel Scarrett, who kicked the man repeatedly while he lay on the floor wished magistrates "Merry Christmas" after they gave him a four-month custodial sentence yesterday.

Worcester Magistrates heard how 22-year-old Scarrett was drinking at The Postal Order when the incident happened at 11.20pm on Thursday, October 3.

Susan Cliff prosecuting said a second man also got involved in the incident, which was captured on CCTV and that the fight stopped for a while then began again.

Scarrett, of Little Chestnut Street, Worcester admitted affray.

"This defendant was involved by kicking and punching him (the first man)," she said.

Mrs Cliff said Scarrett kicked the first man six times as he lay on the floor, causing the man injuries to the eyes and left wrist, among other injuries.

Abusive

She said the first man described himself in the incident as being "kicked around like a rag doll."

Richard Wilkes, defending, said the problem started when Scarrett went over to the first man who he knew, in the pub.

"According to my client he'd (the first man) had a lot to drink and had his head on the table," said Mr Wilkes.

Mr Wilkes said the first man became abusive when Scarrett, who lives off benefits, went over for a "chat."

"He called my client a junkie because of his past drug habit, and he abused his mother," he said.

"It appears he lost control.

"It's the first time he's been before the court for any account of violence.

"This suggests this is not a young man looking for trouble that night."
