A WORCESTER infant dubbed "Amazing Amy" by medics has enjoyed a Christmas treat meeting Premiership footballers.

Three-year-old Amy Lambert, who has been battling leukaemia for the past year, was chosen as part of a group of youngsters from Birmingham Children's Hospice to enjoy a flight and a meeting with Father Christmas.

"Birmingham City Football Club has been doing community work with the hospital throughout the season," said a hospital spokesman.

One of the club's sponsors is www.flight.com, which decided to organise the event, which saw the youngster take to the sky for lunch.

"We went to the airport where we were met by players who gave them scarves and hats and signed them all," said the spokesman.

The youngsters, including Amy who lives with parents Laura and Darren from Green Lane, Merriman's Hill, had lunch aboard the plane, before meeting Father Christmas and receiving gifts.

In August, the Evening News reported that Amy, who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, last December had been christened at St Barnabas Church, in Rainbow Hill.

The youngster earned her nickname after conquering a series of life-threatening complications on top of her cancer, including a severe blood infection and pneumonia in both lungs.
