WORCESTERSHIRE County Council has confirmed that a Droitwich transport company has not had its contract renewed to drive disabled children to and from school.
Yesterday, the Evening News revealed that distressed mother, Jeanette Morgan, was urging parents of the seven other children transported by Kestrel, to petition the county council to reverse its decision.
Her severely disabled 13-year-old son Jonathan, who cannot speak and has no muscle control, is taken daily to Manor Park School, St John's.
The 36-year-old, of Little Park, Chawson, Droitwich, spoke out against the decision, which would mean her son's escort of seven years would no longer be needed, saying it would have a devastating impact on her son.
A county council spokesman said it was legally required to review transport contracts every three years.
"The Government also requires us to make sure we get the best value for money deal possible, as we have a duty to council taxpayers to spend their money responsibly," he said.
"We understand parents' concerns over this issue, so made sure we consulted all schools whose pupils receive this kind of transport to ensure we had their views.
"We then reached a decision based on need as well as financial implications."
