MALVERN Town continued their run of fine form with a comfortable home win over Sedgley White Lions in the Express and Star West Midlands League Premier Division on Saturday.

MALVERN TOWN 2, SEDGLEY WHITE LIONS 0

Town took a little while to get into their stride and Craig Williams rescued Malvern after just ten minutes with a fine goal-line clearance.

Town's opening goal in the 20th minute came a little against the run of play. Dean Roberts was the provider as his excellent cross was well met by John Walton, who headed home his first goal for the club.

This was the catalyst for Town to start to take control of the game and Roberts almost extended Town's lead when he headed against the post just five minutes later.

Des Cox was then denied by a fine save from the Sedgley goalkeeper in the 32nd minute.

The second half saw Town continue to press and the second goal duly arrived in the 58th minute.

Dean Roberts was fouled on the edge of the Sedgley penalty area, and, as the visitors lined up their wall, Rick Halion struck the ball into an unguarded goal.

Despite the visitor's protests, the goal was allowed to stand and was sufficient to secure Town all three points.

Town might have gone on to win more comfortably as Cox headed wide following an excellent move involving Nathan Owen and Roberts and Owen himself was denied by an excellent save having broken free of the Sedgley defence.

The Malvern defence, superbly marshalled by Dave Cannon, was rarely troubled and any efforts on goal were easily dealt with by the goalkeeper Melvyn Watson.

This victory registered Town's 29th point from their last 13 games and has seen them begin to close in on the leading pack.

Town's Worcester Royal Infirmary Senior Cup second round tie against Worcester City Reserves has been arranged for Tuesday (December 17) at Langland Stadium (7.45pm).
