TWO Worcestershire companies have gone bumper-to-bumper to do their bit to save the planet.

Brooklyn Motors plc, which has car showrooms all over Worcestershire, has signed an agreement with Betta Special Waste to take away and dispose of its scrap bumpers.

The agreement will see Betta Special Waste, based in Worcester, remove bumpers from all nine of Brooklyn Motor's car showrooms in Worcester, Evesham, Kidderminster, Malvern and Redditch.

Under the contract, Betta also collects all the company's special waste products.

"We've always found it extremely difficult in the past to find a supplier that's willing to take the bumpers, so Betta really came up trumps," said Barrie Lewis, Brooklyn Motor's group training and safety manager.

"Betta will remove all scrap waste, including scrap bumpers, from our service, body and paint shops for recycling and safe disposal."

Mark Jenkins, Betta Special Waste's managing director, said the company had recognised that Brooklyn Motors had a particular problem with scrap bumpers and had helped them to deal with it.

"We're always keen to go one step further than our competitors, offering a highly flexible and professional service to suit our individual client's needs," he said.

He said Betta Special Waste Limited, which has a two-acre site close to Junction 6 of the M5, offered standard price reductions for fixed contracts to collect from more than one location.

"So companies with more than one site, like Brooklyn Motors, can potentially reduce their waste disposal costs by using Betta."

The waste company is licensed to handle almost all kinds of special waste using rigorous safety procedures set out by the Environment Agency.

It is only one of a few UK companies licensed to store petroleum above ground and specialises in collecting waste from garages, service centres and body shops.

Other products it deals with include oil, oil filters, anti-freeze, paints, thinners and solvents.

A team of chemists carry out full laboratory checks on the waste materials which are then treated and labelled before being stored, processed and disposed of in accordance with the company's operational licence.
