A NIGHT at Evesham mop in 1938 led to a great partnership for a farm worker from Wormington and a woman from Broadway.
The couple, Harold and Julia Dones, married four years later and last Thursday celebrated their diamond wedding anniv-ersary.
Mrs Dones, aged 81, said: "We were married at St Michael's Church, Broad-way." Only a month after their wedding Mr Dones, now 86, was called up to the Army.
During the war he served in Italy and Greece while his wife worked at the local war nursery. They have lived in Wormington since 1949 and have two sons, Michael and Robert, and a grand-daughter, Sarah.
When asked the secret of their success, Mrs Dones said: "Being there for each other."
The couple enjoyed a quiet anniversary, followed by a family celebration near Winchcombe last Saturday.
